What to Expect.

Cat-skiing at Whisper Ridge is not like any resort skiing you’ve ever done; there’s no waiting in lift lines, no fighting for untracked snow and no cold lift rides. With over 70,000 private acres of skiable terrain you have fresh Utah powder all day, everyday. Not to mention your ride to the top is in one of our warm, cozy, luxurious snowcats so after each run you can warm up with warm drinks, music and friends.

Get Vertical.

A day of cat skiing comes with 8-12 thousand vertical feet, breakfast, lunch, beverages, refreshments, beacons and guides. That is about 8-15 runs dependent on group ability and snow conditions. There is no age requirement, we base it on skier ability. We recommend you be an advanced to expert skier. This means you are able to ski black diamonds comfortably and have some experience skiing powder.

What information do I need to provide?

To ensure your trip is a a smooth ride, Whisper Ridge asks each guest to provide the following information for trip communication, weather updates, waivers, travel, and selection of skiing terrain and menu:

  • Full Name
  • Email
  • Mobile Number (Text-Enabled)
  • Skiing Ability (Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, Professional)
  • Dietary Restrictions

If you haven’t already done so, please provide this information to the individual who invited you to the event. Also, please let your host know of any medical conditions or other issues that may impact your ability to attend or participate in the trip.

Do you allow snowboarders?

We love our Snowboarders here at Whisper Ridge. In fact, our owner is a Snowboarder. All Borders need to be experienced and have strong intermediate to expert skills to navigate through trees and deep powder. We do recommend our borders to bring collapsible poles that can be carried in a personal day pack.

What will the snow conditions be like?

It is impossible to accurately predict snow conditions more than a few days out. There are many factors at play. Temps, precipitation and wind all factor in to the snow conditions on a day to day basis. Also, seasonal snowfall totals vary from year to year. That being said, with the size of our terrain we have a lot of places to find fresh tracks.

What should my skiing ability be?

We recommend all guests are strong intermediate skiers to experts and are comfortable with skiing or boarding in deep powder. Our terrain can have open bowls, tight trees, and of course deep powder.

What qualifications will my guides have?

All of the guides at Whisper Ridge hold an Avalanche 2 and Wilderness First Responder or Outdoor Emergency Care certification. In addition, many are also EMT’s. All have been working in the outdoors guiding and instructing skiers for years. Most come from a ski patrol background. We seek engaging, passionate guides that will prioritize our guests experience.

Are skis provided?

Yes, if needed. You’re welcome to bring your own skis suitable for deep powder skiing. We also have an impressive selection of Black Diamond skis available for $55.00 a pair per day. Poles are included with rentals, but we do no rent boots so please be prepared and bring your own. Our Ski Tech can help you find the perfect pair of skis when you arrive.

Are avalanche beacons included? Can I bring my own? Shovel? Probe?

Yes. Avalanche beacons are provided to each guest free of charge. Guests are also allowed to bring their own beacon. Prior to departure your guides will check the functionality of your transceiver. Each cat is equipped with 3 guest packs that contain a shovel and probe as well. In addition, each guide carries avalanche safety gear and first aid equipment.

How many ski runs will we get?

A typical ski day is 8-15 runs. Because we group our guests as best as we can with their skier ability, we avoid wait times as much as possible. Each run averages between 800-1,200 vertical feet, although some runs are 3,000+ on north-facing slopes. A typical day includes 8,000-16,000 vertical feet depending on skill level and terrain.

Do people get motion sickness in the Cats or Helis?

Not often, but sometimes. If you get motion sickness, we recommend you bringing Dramamine, or tell your guide and we will reserve a seat up front with our driver.

Do you just drop us out of the Cat or Heli and go?

No! Every Heli trip includes a professional guide to ensure guest safety. Our pilots are also very experienced and land the helicopters carefuly for guests and guides to decant safely.

Will breakfast be included?

Yes. Here at Whisper Ridge, we know our skiers need calories for their long day of skiing. We also believe in the power of excellent food that makes our guests feel well fed. A typical breakfast will include a selection of waffles, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, bagel with jam and cream cheese, breakfast pastries, coffee, juice & tea.

What about snacks?

Yes. We provide a selection of chips, pretzels, chocolates, etc.

Will you provide beverages?

Whisper Ridge provides water for all skiers. Guests are welcome to bring other beverages of their choice and can keep them in our coolers.

Is lunch included?

Yes. Lunch is prepared daily by our in-house chef. We like our guests to get as many ski runs as possible, so we pack healthy lunch sacks that include a hearty sandwich with fresh bread (gluten free options available) potato or pasta salad, fruit, cookies, and beverages.

Do you accommodate for dietary restrictions?

Yes, we can accommodate some dietary restrictions. Please advise us of any dietary restrictions or food allergies at least 1 week prior to your trip.

What about tips?

Gratuities are a matter of personal preference are are a reflection of your experience with our staff, service, and experience. Our guides and yurt staff typically do not refuse tips, but guests are never required or expected by Whisper Ridge employees or hosts.
